Simple Ways to Check Your Child’s Posture

Maintaining proper posture is very important even at an early age. While children may not be able to feel the effects of slouching and when sitting or standing early on, it may cause some serious and irreversible damage in the future. For this reason, making sure that your children are maintaining good posture while they are young is crucial, especially in helping them avoid health issues/conditions caused by bad posture while sitting and/or standing.

If you notice that your children are slowly developing bad posture or showing signs of spinal issues such as scoliosis, you may need to consult with the best physiotherapist in Dubai to learn more about the child’s condition. If you can’t find the time to visit or make an appointment with a specialist just yet, there are different methods that you can use to check your child’s posture. These methods are simple and can be easily done at home, even without the supervision of a medical specialist or physiotherapist.

Standing Wall-Test

  1. Ask the child to stand firmly to stand at least 6 inches away from the wall;
    2. Make sure that their head, shoulders, and buttocks are touching the wall;
    3. Using your hand or a small measuring device; measure the distance between the child’s lower back and the wall, followed by checking the distance between your child and the mall.
    4. You may use this position/test to check for any imbalance or issues with the child’s posture.

If you notice that they are uncomfortable while in this position or experiencing pain due to bad habits while sitting or standing for too long, consider making an appointment with a specialist that offers pediatric physiotherapy Dubai to determine what is causing the pain or discomfort.

Snow Angel

  1. Get your child to stand up 6 feet away from the wall
    2. Like in the previous test, make sure that their head, shoulders, and buttocks are touching the wall
    3. Ask them to plant their forearms against the wall with their palm facing forwards
    4. Make them raise both arms above their heads without moving their forearms away from the wall. If the child is having trouble or is unable to raise their hands above their heads, it may indicate that a range of conditions may have been caused by improper posture.

When it comes to different health problems, seeing a specialist as early as possible is highly recommended. If you notice something out of the ordinary about your son’s health condition or if there are irregularities in their standing/sitting posture, it is best to correct it as early as possible. There are different methods of non-invasive physical therapy in Dubai, that you can look into to help your child correct their posture.
